環境のポリシーステートメント
We recognize the importance of a healthy environment. We are committed to preserving our natural resources, improving sustainability, and contributing to the quality of life in the communities where we operate across all our facilities worldwide. Our environmental policy extends to our suppliers as a pledge to drive action in our supply chain. As part of this commitment, we have established practices worldwide to:
- Comply with legal requirements that protect the environment.
- Follow the uniform Code of Conduct from the Responsible Business Alliance, which contains standards of environmental responsibility for our factories and suppliers.
- Provide training to our employees to mitigate the risk of environmental accidents.
- Certify our factories to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) frameworks 14001 for effective Environmental Management Systems and 14064 for designing, collecting, and verifying Greenhouse Gas (GHG) emissions.
- Submit GHG and Water-related information to the CDP, a leading organization that assesses the impact of climate change. The results of CDP’s assessment are disclosed on their website.
Our environmental policy is periodically reviewed by the senior management of the company-wide Amkor sustainability team, which is responsible for the development and implementation of this environmental policy.
Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction
We recognize the importance of environmental responsibility and long-term business resilience. We continue to consult on environmental matters with our key stakeholders, including customers, investors, and employees, and reducing our GHG emissions remains a top priority for our stakeholders.
We have committed to achieving company-wide net zero emissions by 2050, aligned with the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi). The net-zero goal is aligned with the rigorous standards set by the SBTi, which aims to limit global temperature rise to 1.5°C in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement.
Amkor’s science-based net-zero targets, which have been validated by SBTi, include:
- Overall Net-Zero Target: Amkor commits to reaching net-zero greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions across the value chain by 2050.
- Near-Term Targets: Amkor commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 55% by 2033 from a 2022 base year. Amkor also commits that 80% of its suppliers by emissions covering purchased goods and services and capital goods will have science-based targets by 2028.
- Long-Term Targets: Amkor commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 90% by 2050 from a 2022 base year. Amkor also commits to reducing scope 3 GHG emissions 97% per million USD value added within the same timeframe.
The key initiatives in achieving the net zero goal include transitioning our energy consumption to renewable energy sources and collaborating with suppliers to reduce the carbon footprint in our supply chain.
Our energy reduction initiatives contribute to lowering our GHG emissions. We will continue to seek opportunities to implement process optimizations to improve the energy efficiency of our manufacturing facilities.
Water Conservation
Water is essential to our manufacturing, and we recognize the potential adverse impact of our operations on water. We are committed to water conservation, minimizing hazardous substances and associated water-related pollution, preserving freshwater ecosystems in the communities where we operate, and continually assessing and improving our practices for sustainable water use.
Our water target is to reduce water use by 20% by 2030 from the average annual water withdrawn by our facilities from 2018 to 2020. We continue to operate water recycling systems at our manufacturing facilities, which allow us to reuse the water required for our manufacturing process, and we are continuously looking for new opportunities to conserve water by improving our water usage efficiency.
We exceed the regulatory requirements for water management by aligning with the international framework (ISO 14001), widely adopted CDP methodology, and RBA industry standards to guide our water management practices.
We recognize that climate change could affect water in complex ways, and we continue to evaluate the water-related risks and stresses using the World Resources Institute (WRI) Aqueduct tool for our facilities worldwide.
We believe the right to clean water is a fundamental Human Right, and we are committed to promoting safely managed Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene (WASH) practices for our employees and in the communities where we operate.
Waste Management
We are committed to minimizing waste generated from our facilities worldwide and promoting sustainable waste management practices. We have implemented a waste reduction program focusing on waste segregation, recycling, and reuse.
Our target is to reduce waste generation by 20% by 2030 from the average annual waste (hazardous, incinerated, recycled, and landfill wastes) generated by our facilities from 2018 to 2020.
We continue to monitor the waste generated in our manufacturing process so we can best implement reduction and recycling strategies. As part of our efforts, we strive to recycle materials and minimize waste in landfills to the extent possible.
